The Biggest Lie About Starting a Business (And What Actually Matters)
Why Mindset Is the Biggest Obstacle in Entrepreneurship—Not Marketing or Money
Let me tell you the biggest lie floating around the internet right now:
That you need more followers, better marketing, or more money to grow your business.
Here's the truth.....
You don’t have a marketing problem.
You don’t have a money problem.
You have a mindset problem.
Let’s talk about it.
The Lie: “If I Just Had More Money or Better Marketing, I’d Be Successful.”
We hear it all the time.
“If I had the money, I’d scale.”
“If I could afford a social media manager, I’d be consistent.”
“If I had more followers, I’d finally start selling out.”
But here’s what I’ve seen firsthand—working with 4,000+ small businesses across the country:
Some of y’all do have the resources.
You’ve got decent branding.
You’ve invested in courses, systems, and templates.
You’re showing up on social media.
But nothing’s moving because you’re still doubting yourself.
You’re hesitating. You’re second-guessing.
You’re waiting for it to be perfect instead of getting it done.
What Actually Matters: Mindset, Discipline, and Decision-Making
We’ve glamorized entrepreneurship so much that people think “building a brand” is the goal.
But building a business is what actually gets you paid.
That means doing boring stuff.
That means showing up when no one’s clapping.
That means choosing to believe in your business, even when the sales are slow.
Most of the people who get left behind aren’t untalented—they’re just undisciplined.
They don’t trust themselves.
They overthink everything.
And they keep hitting pause on their business every time life gets hard.
The ones who win get out of their heads.
They decide they’re doing this, no matter what.
They move even when life is life-ing.
Mindset Isn’t What You Think it is —It’s the Foundation
Mindset is how you process pressure.
It’s what you say to yourself when things don’t go as planned.
It’s the story you tell yourself when nobody’s buying.
It’s the difference between “this isn’t working” and “how can I make this work?”
Mindset isn’t just positive thinking.
It’s your default setting.
It’s your self-talk, your bounce back, and your ability to keep showing up when things feel slow, scary, or silent.
You can have a fire website and still fail.
You can go viral and still be broke.
You can land a coach and still not execute.
Mindset is the filter through which you make every decision.
If you don’t believe in what you’re building, no strategy in the world will fix that.
So if you’ve been spending all your time trying to “fix” your marketing or find more money—pause.
Ask yourself:
Am I showing up fully?
Am I being consistent, or am I quitting and restarting every other week?
Do I actually believe I can win?
If not—it’s time to stop downloading strategies and start upgrading your mindset.
Start Where You Are. Move Anyway.
Here’s the truth: your business is not waiting on a $10k grant or the right Instagram reel to blow up.
It’s waiting on you.
Decide.
Discipline yourself.
Believe in your work—then work the hell out of it.
Because the biggest lie about starting a business is that you’re missing something.
But what you’re missing… might just be your own belief.
You don’t need perfect. You need movement.
And if no one’s told you lately—you’ve got this.
Now go get it.
